Home Sweet Home

HOME SWEET HOME!

Alright guys, here’s what we’ve been up to at Engine Room HQ. These are the first shots of the loft space we are busy building for our cast of artists. Does this get your heart racing as fast as it does mine?!! Forget the $$$, I want the loft when it’s all said and done!

Ok, so what do you think of the raw space? Inspiring?

I knew I loved this project when it landed in my lap, but I didn’t know how much it would grow and evolve…and that’s all in RESPONSE to your passion and enthusiasm.

So, keep it up everyone…Adam! Chris! Denesia! Liam! Drucifer! Tony! G! MakingLovingLikePornStar! (I couldn’t wait to write that one.) Shaleea Lucky Star! Tiiiiiiimmmm! All of you wonderful, amazing artists! Let’s make sure the guys in the corner office take notice and create more forums for you to CREATE and be RECOGNIZED!

p.s. Joel, it’s silly of you to play hard to get…really, just give in. ☺

Love you all,

Xoxo

  6. Demetrius Harmon Says:

Hey SuPak did you view the “movie” and come up with your own twisted part to add? http://www.twingraphiks.com/engineroommovie.html

  7. Denesia Says:

You made me feel better SuPak! I love lofts. :)

  8. Demetrius Harmon Says:

hey D, I can see us all in it together.

  9. Demetrius Harmon Says:

@d, if you were one of the 16 what number would yo be?

  10. Jonathan Sabella Says:

@MTV Crazy idea, how about you guys forget the other 15 artists and just cast me. I will pack 16 different outfits…maybe a nice zuit suit, a red dress…I can even get those joke glasses with the big nose and mustache. I can play all 16 parts and compete against myself. That loft has my name on it. I see my bed/workspace right in the corner.

  11. Demetrius Harmon Says:

lol, Jonathan play all the parts eddie murphy

  12. Christopher Miles Says:

That place is gonna be siiiick ! I can’t wait to see what it looks like !

  13. Demetrius Harmon Says:

    @christopher……….I must say…….very…..very….nice….site…indeed…..

  14. Jonathan Sabella Says:

I’m really good at accents so I can pull off the international cast members too. If you guys go halves on a fat suit with me I think that would be a great addition to the show.

  15. Jonathan Sabella Says:

With the right lighting and make-up application I am fine with playing SuChin on her days off as well.

  16. Christopher Miles Says:

@ Demetrius : thanks man ! took me countless hours , dozens of water bottles , and a neck injury to complete it ! lol

  17. Jonathan Sabella Says:

Some actionscript fall on your head Chris?

  18. Demetrius Harmon Says:

    I have one word 4 u my friend….”dedication”

  19. Christopher Miles Says:

@ Jonathan : pretty much , it filled my head and made it too heavy , my neck couldn’t support all that code for that long ! haha

  20. Jonathan Sabella Says:

Maybe we can build you some kind of space helmet that will both keep you fueled with water and hold your head up.

  21. Denesia Says:

Demetrius, I can see all of us together in it too. I would be #10. That’s my favorite number. What number would you be?

  22. Jonathan Sabella Says:

Thats fine Denesia, I’ll be sure to depict your roll as cast member number 10 with grace.

  23. Christopher Miles Says:

if you make it stylish , ill help u market it ! hahahah , pretty much a beer helmet / neck brace , i can’t really picture that looking cool . . .

  24. Jonathan Sabella Says:

It totally would have put Darth Vader in a better mood.

  25. Christopher Miles Says:

    lol , true

  26. Jonathan Sabella Says:

“You are part of the rebel alliance and a traitor! TAKE HER TO MY PARTY ROOM!”

  27. Jonathan Sabella Says:

^ Also I forgot the add the scary breathing heeee hawwwww heeee hawwwwwwwww

  28. Denesia Says:

Cool Jonathan! You’re starting off good so far, because you wear glasses and I wear glasses too. You may have to get some spray on tan and some black hair extensions. lol

  29. Jonathan Sabella Says:

I can just use After Effects for those scenes.

  30. Denesia Says:

Cool! I think those scenes are going to be interesting Jonathan. lol

  31. Tony Campagna Says:

Ahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! SuChin!!!!!!! I love the loft!!!!!!!!! Oh the tease that it is! lol
Oh god that’d be so cool!!! Yeeah, want to be there. :)
..and hey there, guys in the corner office!!!! Yeah, talkin to you. :) We’re your adopted artists and we’re here to stay!

Joel ~ You’ve got your orders…. I stand aside and bow down to the greatness, lol

    Thanks SuChin!

  32. Charles Says:

according to my calculations from these photos. i’d say this is taking place on the east side (seaport area) of manahttan.

  33. Denesia Says:

What do you all think the rooms are going to look like?

  34. Charles Says:

or dare i evens say brookyln (dumbo area). it also seems to be haunted. see all those floating dots in the pic.

  35. Denesia Says:

Good detective work Charles. If they do have us running all over New York to get stuff for each project, I know I am going to get lost. lol

  36. Charles Says:

D- give me a call. i know the city like the back of my hand.

  37. Denesia Says:

Thanks for the scary info Charles! lol

  38. Denesia Says:

I sure will Charles. If we both make it on the show, then I won’t have to call you, you’ll be right there. lol

  39. Jonathan Sabella Says:

I can also play any and all ghosts with the creative use of a white sheet.

  40. Denesia Says:

    lol Jonathan

  41. Tony Campagna Says:

Dee, Charles ~ We’d still be able to chat on the HP equipment in the same room!

  42. Tony Campagna Says:

    Incase we get blog withdrawals!

  43. Tony Campagna Says:

Ok, getting way ahead of myself……lol

  44. Denesia Says:

I see the orbs of light in the photo now. I am hoping the camera was just wet, had sunlight reflecting on the lens, or something. lol

  45. Demetrius Harmon Says:

@d i’ll be number 3 because im the third born out of 6 brothers and sisters

  46. Chris Griffin Says:

    I love ghosts!!!

If I get on the show, I’d totally buy a scooter to ride around in that place. It would be totally unnecessary and lazy, but hey….beats walking.

And some nerf toys. Nothing like a good old nerf battle…

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=pVKnF26qFFM

  47. Demetrius Harmon Says:

I wonder would this be like a designers real world type thing if 16 of us lived 2gether.

  48. Denesia Says:

That would be fun Tony. I have never chatted with somebody on seperate computers in the same room before. lol We could also have some game nights. My college had a computer gaming club. They were serious about it. lol

  49. Tony Campagna Says:

Chris G. ~ Ditto on the Nerf toys.

..and ghosts? Oh yeah, that’d be an added plus.

  50. Jonathan Sabella Says:

Chris I would like to participate in said nerf battle regardless of the outcome of our casting.

  51. Tony Campagna Says:

Dee ~ I think we’d be up all night, games and chat! and work all day.

  52. Denesia Says:

I think so Demetrius. You know how wild it gets on the blog, you know it’s going to be wild in the loft. lol

  53. Jonathan Sabella Says:

Those nerfs would really bounce off nicely from Chris Miles shiny new neck helmet too.

  54. Denesia Says:

Tony, we can do all that while Chris throws nerf balls at us. lol

  55. Tony Campagna Says:

Nerf toys are also safe for all the PC’s :) As wild as the blog gets, thats a good idea,

  56. Charles Says:

Chris- my last gig was at a huge loft which someone had a monstrous looking nerf blaster. they would randomly start shooting at ppl. it was scary times.

D- I’ve chatted with ppl sitting next to me. It was annoying at times- especially if they would- LOL cause i would turn around they really weren’t…. lies…

  57. Tony Campagna Says:

Dee ~ See who lasts longer with toys bouncing off our heads, lol

  58. Tony Campagna Says:

No anonymity and little privacy…..you’ve seen other reality shows…and its all in the camera lense.. I like that.

  59. Denesia Says:

Tony, I added to the wildness today. Sorry for going off. lol

  60. Christopher Miles Says:

lol , they have pretty intense nerf guns out now ! but a nerf battle in the loft is def a good idea

  61. Chris Griffin Says:

I’d buy this for the nerf war…

    http://www.uberreview.com/wp-content/uploads/600_nerf.jpg

  62. Vaughn Says:

The loft is very attractive….a blank canvas…haha

  63. Denesia Says:

We’ll try not to lol around you Charles, but if we do we’re just laughing at ourselves. lol

  64. Christopher Miles Says:

lol , with that you can protect the front lines by urself while we surround the other team

  65. Vaughn Says:

Hey Chris, we have one of those in the office where I work…everyone has a gun…once someone pulls the hammer back…its all over…lol

  66. Denesia Says:

Chris, you can get a link to something within seconds. You’re good! That thing looks like it packs some velocity. lol

  67. Chris Griffin Says:

We have a bunch of nerf guns at our lab, but not the machine gun. It doesn’t come out until august.

  68. Tony Campagna Says:

Dee ~ I saw that, lol I’ll write back asap. Just got home a little bit ago.

Vaughn ~ Any time I see a blank wall I think canvas.

Chris ~ We never had anything like that as a kid, I’d like to get my hands on it.

  69. Charles Says:

Chris- that thing can seriously cause some damage if launched at the eyes. that’s why i’m much more of a laser tag guy. i’m a wimp i guess.

  70. Charles Says:

I say you guys would do better with super soakers to quench the heatness here. it’s been feeling quite swap *** like here in nyc. tho today was nice- no humidity, which has not happened since like march when it was still winter.

  71. Vaughn Says:

@Chris - You’re absolutely right Chris…I was thinking of the sniper rifles we have

    @Dee - me too

@Charles - it hurts like **** to get shot in the eye…especially with those sniper darts

  72. Roberto Says:

    aaaaaagh!! i can’t wait! awesomeness :)

  73. Chris Griffin Says:

I hit someone in the tear duct with a nerf dart, once. Luckily no one at our Lab has gotten any optical damage.

  74. Christopher Miles Says:

@ Roberto : hey man , another Art Institute student , awesome ! I go to the Ai in Philadelphia

  75. Matt Moore Says:

    looks rad… but
can these lofts PUMP OUT JAMZ??

  76. Chris Griffin Says:

What bridge is that in the background? Brooklyn? Queensboro?

  77. Shawn Mott Says:

Looks cool! Hope I get to see it in person!

That bridge looks like the pedestrian walk on the Williamsburg but I can’t really tell - If so then that’s the lower east side which is WICKED cool!

    Cheers!

  78. Charles Says:

Chris- looks like the brooklyn to me which is why i believe it’s in brooklyn because of the dumbo area is full buildings like that. a very posh hipsterish place full of lofts.

  79. Chris Griffin Says:

I’ve only been to NY once, but I saw all of Manhattan.

  80. Charles Says:

Chris- did you go on one of those red double decker buses?

  81. Charles Says:

i hope the loft will host access to an awesomo’ render farm ::drools:::

  82. Chris Griffin Says:

Naw, I just walked everywhere. My feet were killing me on the plane ride back home.

  83. Charles Says:

Excellent- like a true new yorker. i dislike those ppl on those buses. one time someone actually pointed at me and yelled out ‘look at that goth boy’. then someone proceeded to take a picture- no lie. i felt like a chimp at the zoo.

  84. Chris Griffin Says:

    hehe.

I’m such a dork. After searching through google maps, I found the loft. It is at the base of the Manhattan Bridge on the Brooklyn side at the intersection of Water and Pearl ST.

  85. Danny! Says:

    How appropriate.
Most of our goals are quite “loft”-y, no? :)

  86. Christopher Miles Says:

hahah nice find ! i’m bout to go check it out !

  87. Charles Says:

sweet so it is in the dumbo area. make a note guys- gotta go to grimaldi’s. best new york pizza that ppl even get online just to order out.

  88. Christopher Miles Says:

google’s 3d street view is amazing ! u can pretty much walk down the streets of cities on you computer

  89. Chris Griffin Says:

Yeah, if you use the street view, you can see some really cool graffiti on one of the neighboring buildings.

  90. Christopher Miles Says:

yea i was checking that out , pretty sweet

  91. Aubrey Klein Says:

    THAT LOOKS INCREDIBLE.

Mr. Griffin, I was the same way: the only time I went to NYC was a nightmare for my feet. We went out touring studios and spent the rest of the time scaling the city sans vehicular transportation. What a magical thing it was, though.

I wish we could all coordinate some giant trip out there and meet just to hang out. To hear/see about everyone’s inspirations and watch people work would be a blast for sure. I can’t wait to hear who’s in!

  92. Tony Campagna Says:

Charles ~ Now thats what I’ve been wanting since this began, some good NY Pizza! I’m Italian and I really want to experience that.

  93. Tony Campagna Says:

Aubrey ~ Yeah, I know, it looks amazing doesnt it? :) I’ve never been to NY. I’ve wanted to see it for a long time now.

  94. Aubrey Klein Says:

Haha…and I think I ate pizza at least twice a day while I was there. :)

  95. Tony Campagna Says:

But everyone together……Well, that would be a blast!

  96. Aubrey Klein Says:

Tony, you’ll never forget it. That city really doesn’t sleep…I’m going back in the fall (YES!!!).

  97. Chris Griffin Says:

Man, if you want pizza, Italy is the place.

I did a semester abroad living in Tuscani, Italy, and that was the best. People were great, scenery was amazing, and the food was incredible.

I tried pizza from all over Italy; Cinco Terra, Tuscani, Rome, Capri, Venice, Paestum.

Who knew there were so many ways to cook a pizza.

  98. Charles Says:

Tony- oh yeh it’s quite exclusive. they only serve it by the pie- old style i guess but oh so good.

there’s also a a hug telescope at this near by park that that supposedly ‘goes under ground’ and through to england.

  99. Tony Campagna Says:

    Aubrey ~ Lucky you!
I’ma west coast boy. The only time I’ve been off the coast was to Billings MT and a brief stint in AZ. Completely different there, I have to say.

  100. Aubrey Klein Says:

Charles, you’ve got some incredible work.

  101. Tony Campagna Says:

Chris G. ~ I have family over in Italy! I’ve never met them, but they’re there. My heritage and I love it.

Charles ~ Old style pie, oh yes, I’m there.
Telescope? Now that’d be something to see. I’d be the total tourist, I swear.

  102. Charles Says:

Aubrey- it does sleep hahah. i actually make sure i never pass by time square unless it’s after midnight only because it becomes a series empty streets full of bright lights. very creepy yet magical.

  103. Chris Griffin Says:

It’s funny. Looking around the loft in google street view, when you cycle through the views there is a triangle-shaped parking lot that turns into a small plaza with a sculpture next to the building.

Photo’s from different times I guess?

  104. Charles Says:

Thanks Aubrey- I like your print work. your like a digital picasso.

  105. Tony Campagna Says:

Something about big cities at night. I have a thing for the atmosphere.

  106. Tony Campagna Says:

Used to live in SF for awhile and loved hanging out at night on Broadway. I’m sure NY is something else though.

  107. Christopher Miles Says:

anyone getting the iphone 3g tomorrow ??

  108. Christopher Miles Says:

yea , cities are very beautiful during the night

  109. Aubrey Klein Says:

So true, Charles. The first time I saw Times Square was at 1:30am…my first night there. I have to say, it was probably one of the most memorable nights. It was eerie. Felt like broad daylight. It’s just a bit different out here in Manhattan, Kansas, haha. If you get away from the town, the pure starlight is another wonder in itself.

  110. Tony Campagna Says:

Christopher ~ Was out at the local Apple store today inquiring about them. Pretty sweet. I’m undecided atm.

  111. Charles Says:

you would def like it Tony. there’s something for everyone here. hmm san fran- i want to go visit- i actually might cause i’m heading over to l.a. for siggraph aka nerdfest 08 ands since i’m renting a car i might drive up there. how is it there?

  112. Chris Griffin Says:

I’ve had this crazy idea for a movie…

It’s about a guy who is training to be a runner. So he lives in a large city like NY, and he likes to do his running late at night when the streets are empty and quiet.

The movie would follow him on one of these midnight runnings…

when all **** breaks loose and he winds up witnessing a murder and people chase after him. He runs through the city, trying to find places to hide, trying to get to the cops, and runs into strange people and is constantly being pursued. I’d love to have a shot of this guy just hauling butt down the street as fast as he can, running for his life. I’d make it very “Fincher” style.

    Be a crazy movie.

  113. Tony Campagna Says:

Aubrey ~ Thats the one thing I remember about MT. The view of the stars was beautiful.

  114. Christopher Miles Says:

i got my iPhone in NYC the first day they came out ! i hafta get the 3G version !

why undecided ? not an AT&T costumer ?

  115. Tony Campagna Says:

Charles ~ I love it. Downtown SF has everything you could want to keep busy, restaurant , clubs, etc. Fishermans warf is a great boardwalk of shops, food, tours……Plus, the ghirardelli chocolate factory….gotta visit that. You’d like it.

  116. Tony Campagna Says:

Christopher ~ Been looking at the Blackberry as well. So many toys, so little time. Everyone’s got something new.

  117. Tony Campagna Says:

Chris G. ~ I like your idea. Very visual and perfect for the big city / night theme.

  118. Christopher Miles Says:

yea there are a lot of sweet phones to choose from

  119. Chris Griffin Says:

Aiite. I’m out of here. Gonna go see Hellboy 2. Laters.

  120. Christopher Miles Says:

yea same here , gotta get up early so i can give Apple my money , hehe . peace .

  121. Tony Campagna Says:

Take care guys. Myself, I need to draw some vamps and cute mice for awhile before it gets too late. I’ll check back later….

    T

  122. Aubrey Klein Says:

Adios, fellas. Let me know how Hellboy is, Chris…I’ll probably end up seeing it in the next couple weeks if it’s any good.

  123. Liam Rustill Says:

    WoWzA!

Pretty sexy, I think even if I don’t get on the show you should just give that loft to me. Why not? I’d keep it warm. I’d show it a good time.

  124. Liam Rustill Says:

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this (I’m not going to read the 100+) messages but do you think the people painted on the posts are the people who have got onto the show??? Would make sense, unless that’s there from whatever the place was used for before.

  125. Ivan Says:

Aghhhh!!! I want to be on the show!!! Come on MTV… pick me!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9SUosbUE8o

  126. Joel Marsh Says:

Oh snap!!! SuChin, based on your reaction to the loft (i.e. - “forget the money, I want the loft”) I am beginning to reconsider your continuous romantic propositioning. I couldn’t agree more. The interior guys better not screw it up…although I’m sure it will be built more for television function than for real life function (including many a hidden camera, audio gear, appropriate lighting, etc.). I see right through Operation: Coveted NYC Loft For Joel…that’s what the operation was called, right?

I am actually in the middle of an apartment reno myself, having just stripped my place back to the concrete box (not unlike the loft photos - seriously) and having done so while still living in it. I am jealous of the old-school brick walls that appears to have…use light wood floors, maybe ash, or beech…

  127. Joel Marsh Says:

    @Tony:

Haha… no need to bow down…I am always in the spirit of ‘may the best man win’. Besides…just because she made her choice, doesn’t mean I have made mine…it takes more than daily emails and plush gifts and questionable photographs and baked goods and ceramic molds of body parts and flowers delivered to my office and late-night call-and-breathe-heavy-and-hang-ups every hour to win me over.

But I admit, the interest in architecture is a good start. :)

  128. ace yilma Says:

oh my god I want this so bad..this is amazing…..very very inspiring

  129. Tony Campagna Says:

I’ve always had a love for the “classic” artist loft. The windows, the wide open floorspace….it just speaks……..”create!”

Joel ~ I applaud your resistance to SuChin’s Jedi mind tricks, Obviously well trained in the art of long distance baking and pottery seduction. Said molded body parts have always been a weakness of my own, truth be told, but you my friend, you are indeed a gentleman and a confident patron of finer things such as…well……said Engine Room Curator. Be strong …and well, start planning on where your space is gonna be. :)

  130. Joel Marsh Says:

    @Tony:

Haha. Well said…ever thought of being a copywriter? Seriously?

Pottery is well-known guise of the Jedis, but I have learned from the Dark Side of the force, so her tricks have no effect on me. Peanut butter M&Ms on the other hand… those are to me as molded body parts are to you…simply, irresistible.

    *cue Robert Palmer video*

  131. Tony Campagna Says:

Joel ~ :) I used to write for enjoyment only in a couple online forums and had alot of fun with it.
;) Lo, your kryptonite is known and your cover blown. Forever will you be lost to the…….. ” Oh ****, enough with the Shakespearean blah blah…

:: pale faced dancers swing in unison:: “….She’s so fine, there’s no tellin’ where the money went…::

  132. 02.Lead Says:

wow the place will look amazing of what it will turn out 2 be. Cant wait 2 see the final work ^.^

  133. Chris Griffin Says:

    Hellboy 2 was good.

Better visuals, more cracks and jokes, same attitude.

Now, time to work on my own fantasy/lost genre story. Any ideas?

  134. Tony Campagna Says:

Chris G. ~ I heard that about Hellboy 2, and The Hulk 2 and Ironman…must be some good writing this time around, I still havent seen any of them.
So many topics out there….. but, there’s a book in everyone. Supposedly.

All ~ I’m off to bed.. for a few hours anyway.
    Have a great night!

  135. Chris Griffin Says:

    Goodnight to all.

FYI - For the collaboration… I have a slew of story ideas if we want to do an animation. Just food for thought.

    Nighty-night.

  136. Dada Says:

    wow… everything getting materialize
actually this show is the ‘art’
    great u all………

  137. Rens Says:

Have to say something about the loft of course! ITS AMAZING! It has always been a dream of to go to NY…and especially for these kind of places! So yeah I can see myself living there for a month at least!

    GREAT SPACE PEOPLE!!

@ charles..watched ur video looks really cool…ur website is nice and dark too! Loved it :)

  138. la Says:

anyone had any new e-mails yet?

  139. la Says:

    For SuPak:

Has any e-mails been sent out to finalists?

  140. Tati Rausch Says:

I just finished a freela when i click f5…o/…new post of SuPak!

I saw the photos and i feel myself inspiring. Looking at the internal photo, how much things to create…i see colors, objects, life, art, sound of the culture, music, voices.

  141. Tati Rausch Says:

Kisses and misses, i´m off to sleep a little. =******

  142. How To Make Love Like a Porn Star Says:

Lofts are for hipsters like I read in that book No Logo.
    Gimme a Playboy Mansion instead.

  143. Jeancarlo "Tito" Avila Says:

    Lord have mercy, Su.

  144. Jeancarlo "Tito" Avila Says:

As if the spirit bubbles weren’t enough to tickle my pickle, I think I see a mural of myself on that pillar! Fate at its best. =)

  145. How To Make Love Like a Porn Star Says:

the more i think of it, i’m beginning to realize what the loft is for: they gather up like 16 people and throw a good bye party. one of them - supposedly me - will record everything on a hdv camera. at some point, there’ll be screaming and explosions. then the head of the statue of liberty will fall off. seen this before?

  146. Ric Hulme Says:

    SuChin u BIG TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!
    just not fair!
    that place looks bezin!
hmm only 16 finalists? n how many entrys :( fingers crossed!
i can picture my self oozing some sexy creative design love juice all about that place! put me in there put me in there! id be in my element! like wen ur left with the house to urself as a kid, opening the fridge n not closing it properly cos u can and pulling ur socks all long at the end n flickin the cat in the eye! ROCK N EFFIN’ ROLL!
