I Don’t Care What Anyone Says, We Have The Coolest Judges Hands Down.

September 26th, 2008

So, I hope by now you’ve had a chance to see our second episode. And I hope that you had the appropriate reaction when our panel of judges came out. I hope that your reaction was a slight (or major) jaw drop when STEFAN SAGMEISTER walked out. (Aubrey, thanks for sharing your reaction!) This is not a patting of our backs, I am genuinely impressed with the whole season’s panels (I had nothing to do with any of that, BTW.)

Stefan Sagmeister is probably one of the most important graphic designers/art directors of our time…from creating art for Lou Reed, Rolling Stones, The Guggenheim…well, you can Wiki it yourself. The point is, he’s had the kind of career many of us dream about and are working hard to achieve and he’s done it on his own terms. On top of the fact that he has to be one of the nicest people I’ve met in a long time. But what I want to point out is that given all of these accolades, at the end of the day, he has a similar philosophy about work and life that many of us share. Check out his website, www.sagmeister.com, where he devotes a chunk of his site to a section titled “Answers for Students.” I think it’s important to respect a talented person’s body of work, but I think it’s even more important to respect what that person does with his/her success.

So, YES we are damn serious about getting your work and talent out to the people who matter the most…(ok, now I’m patting a little.)

p.s. On a side note, Jeffrey Deitch (yes THE JeffreyDeitch: www.deitch.com) was so impressed and so freaking cool, that after the judging he invited the entire cast to come to a big opening party at his new gallery that weekend. Guess how many took him up on THAT invite?

The Big Premiere And your Chance To Win Something Too!

September 15th, 2008

Hey guys! So it’s finally, here, our first episode, which gives you a good idea of who the cast members are and just a little taste of some of the drama and PASSION you’ll be seeing throughout our first season. So a big hello to our teams from around the world—I hope that you’ll write them notes here and let me know what you think of the show as we get going! You know I always love to hear from you guys (the good, the bad and the ugly) and now the cast members can enjoy your witty banter and thoughtful comments as well!

We will be announcing the our first portfolio pick winner on Monday, next week…and that lucky artist will get a brand new HP Artist Edition Notebook. (How’s that for a prize?!) It’s not 400k, but come on! ? :)
